The 3 ‘Terzieri’ originated as territorial and social divisions of the ancient Città della Pieve.
Terziere Castello, the first Terziere in the city to be reconstituted in modern times in 1964, has the colors green and black, and its territory occupies the southwestern part of the city.
In ancient times, this part of the city was inhabited by the aristocratic knights class and the nobility. So, the historical procession is primarily centered on the representation of this segment of society.
Don Oscar Carbonari, a local priest, was fundamental to the formation of the Terziere.
He arranged the Patron Saint Roch festival on August 16th, breathing new life into the summer and the people of Città della Pieve.
During the month of August, Terziere Castello actively participates in the events of the Palio dei Terzieri, notably organizing the two-day Saint Roch Fair (featuring workshops of ancient crafts open at street level and roaming performances throughout the Terziere) as well as the ‘Festa a Palazzo’, where highly skilled fire-breathers and jugglers perform in the central square of Città della Pieve.
Between Christmas and Epiphany, Terziere Castello sets up the ‘Monumental Nativity Scene’ in the premises of its tavern (located in the underground chambers of the ‘Palazzo della Corgna,’ the building of the ancient ducal family).
This exhibit, a visual delight and a contemplative experience for the soul, rich in lighting effects and enchanting music, retraces the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, accompanied by themes that resonate with contemporary issues.
